Video (H)our(s) is an underground video art and experimental film festival founded in Berlin in 2024 by Gustav Bengtsson. Initiated in 2023 as a small-scale platform, it emerged from a desire to resist institutional gatekeeping and commercial decision-making within the arts.

Operating at the intersection of contemporary art, experimental cinema, performance, subcultures, and embodied politics, the festival treats the moving image as something that presses against the body, unsettles perception, and opens spaces for resistance. Video (H)our(s) functions as an intimate and temporary space for works that do not fit within the white-cube system, works that are raw, process-based, and deeply entangled with lived experience and political realities.

The festival takes place in small, non-profit, and artist-run venues, often in basement settings that serve both as physical locations and symbolic gestures, a return to the origins of film culture, outside commercial circuits and mainstream spectatorship. It remains fully independent from institutional obligations and funding bodies, allowing for a curatorial approach grounded in risk, vulnerability, and artistic provocation.

Each edition is structured around a specific thematic framework, inviting reflection and friction across both macro and micro perspectives. All works are screened once, emphasizing presence, attention, and the irreproducibility of the moment.

Within this structure, works by established and emerging artists coexist in an organic and non-hierarchical system, where dialogue, proximity, and shared experience take precedence over status or recognition.

The festival is free of charge, with limited capacity due to the scale of its venues. It attracts an independent and engaged audience—artists, researchers, and activists, drawn to challenging works, close proximity, and conversations that do not resolve easily.
